Live at the Old Quarter

Townes Van Zandt

(Tomato Records, 1977)

... music to live by ...

A writer’s dream. There are few songwriters able to equal the depth of Van Zandt's lyrics.

Salvation sat and crossed herself
and called the devil partner
wisdom burned upon a shelf
who'll kill the raging cancer
seal the river at its mouth
take the water prisoner
fill the sky with screams and cries
bathe in fiery answers

One stage - Houston, Texas, 1973 - one voice, one guitar.

Paradise may be my favorite song of all time! With Pancho and Lefty being right up there (I have a version of Dylan and Willie singing it together).

My favorite Van Zandt - "Nothin'". And my favorite performance of it is Live in Berlin.

Cogresha, have you heard Jonell Mosser's album - Around Townes? If not, you should try to get it. She was his singer of choice to demo his songs. She does Tower Song, St. John the Gambler, A Song For, and others.

Thanks for the read and comment.
