I roam the whole universe from here. - Han-shan
Comfortably Numb
Pink Floyd
...music to live by...
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.

We make a harvest of loneliness and desiring in the blank wasteland of the cosmos. - Jack Gilbert

There are times that I almost can't bear to listen to that song because of these lyrics:
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
You just reminded me that it's been too damned long since I've heard "Shine on you Crazy Diamond:"
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Shine on, Sam.
The lyrics do slice into the soul. No doubt. I do like the words so, but Gilmore's guitar blows me away. He's such a strong musician.
And "Shine On" is one of those songs that hurts - but you cannot stop listening.
Thanks for the visit, Laurel.
"Wish You Were Here" is a favorite of mine (along with the two already mentioned), and "Pigs on the Wing":
We would zigzag our way
through the boredom and pain
occasionally glancing up through the rain
Great lyric, Andrew. Thanks for the listen.
Don't know if it's still up anywhere on YouTube, but a few years back Kate Bush made a surprise appearance at David Gilmour's concert and sang Comfortably Numb. An amazing moment. I love PF!
I've seen that video, Collin, though I don't remember where. I didn't see it on youtube. That is a great version.
