thoughts I had...

Frank Stanford

Narcissus to Achilles

Yesterday, I passed over a bridge
and saw a boot underwater.
Such thoughts I had,
I cannot tell you.

I would give up everything I've ever written - which in the long scheme of the universe doesn't amount to much - to have written one Frank Stanford poem and survived.

I find it monumentally interesting, that such a beautifully baroque title was given to a poem about a grubby old boot, its a pleasant contradiction in my personal opinion, and despite being minimalistic in length this piece contains mountains of poignancy

Nice piece, it is the title that makes me wonder about it more. Thanks for sharing.
